What is and How To Create VM Duplicate in Azure?

Streamline Azure VM duplication effortlessly with Cloudshot

A VM (Virtual Machine) duplicate in Azure is an exact copy of an existing virtual machine. This feature allows you to create one or more identical instances of a VM, which can be useful for various purposes.

To create a VM duplicate in Azure using the Cloudshot interface, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Cloudshot interface.
  2. Select the VM to duplicate:
    • In the diagram, right-click on the VM icon you want to duplicate.
  3. Access the Azure-specific menu:
    • In the context menu that appears, hover over 'Cloudshot Azure' to reveal more options.
  4. Choose 'Create VM Duplicate':
    • From the Azure-specific submenu, select 'Create VM Duplicate'.
  5. Set duplication parameters:
    • In the new window, you'll see two fields:
    • Number of VM Instances: Enter the number of duplicates you want to create. The default is 1.
    • VM Login Password: Enter a password for the new VM(s).
  6. Deploy the duplicate(s):
    • After filling in the required information, click the orange 'Deploy to Azure' button at the bottom of the window.
  7. Wait for deployment:
    • Cloudshot will then communicate with Azure to create the specified number of VM duplicates with the settings you've provided.
  8. Verify the new VM(s):
    • Once deployment is complete, the new VM(s) should appear in your Azure resources and be reflected in your Cloudshot diagram.

Remember that creating VM duplicates will incur additional costs in your Azure subscription, so make sure this aligns with your resource needs and budget. Also, ensure you're following your organization's naming conventions and security policies when creating new VMs.
