How To Manage Tags in VM?

Effortlessly manage VM tags with Cloudshot

Tags in Azure are metadata elements attached to resources for logical organization, management, and cost tracking. They are key-value pairs that help categorize and group resources across your Azure subscription.

  1. Name-value pairs of text data used to categorize Azure resources.
  2. Each tag consists of a name (key) and a value
  3. Example: 'Environment': 'Production'

Steps:-

  1. Access the Tag Management Interface:
    • Navigate to the 'Cloudshot Azure' submenu.
    • Select 'Manage Tags' from the options (highlighted in yellow).
  2. Add a New Tag:
    • In the 'Manage Tags' window, you'll see two fields: 'Key' and 'Value'.
    • Enter the tag name (key) in the 'Key' field.
    • Enter the tag value in the 'Value' field.
    • Click the blue '+' button to add the tag.
  3. Remove a Tag:
    • To remove an existing tag, click the red trash can icon next to the tag you want to delete.
  4. Add Multiple Tags:
    • Repeat the process of entering key-value pairs and clicking the '+' button to add multiple tags.
  5. Apply Changes:
    • After adding or removing tags, click the orange 'Deploy to Azure' button at the bottom of the window to apply your changes.
  6. Best Practices for Managing Tags:
    • Use consistent naming conventions for keys and values.
    • Consider using tags for environment (e.g., 'Environment': 'Production'), cost center, project, or owner.
    • Don't overcomplicate – use tags that provide clear, useful information.
  7. Limitations:
    • Remember that Azure has limits on the number of tags per resource (typically 50) and character limits for keys and values.
  8. Review and Update:
    • Regularly review your tagging strategy and update tags as needed to ensure they remain relevant and useful.
